Dear Slicer Community,

As many of you know, the 3D Slicer and SOFA communities have been working together on the [SlicerSOFA](https://github.com/Slicer/SlicerSOFA) extension, which brings the simulation capabilities of the [SOFA Framework](https://www.sofa-framework.org/) directly into Slicer workflows. SOFA is an open-source framework for interactive mechanical simulation, with a strong focus on biomechanics and robotics, and SlicerSOFA keeps opening up opportunities for collaboration between both communities. (SlicerSOFA received the Public Prize of the SOFA open-source awards in 2024!)

To foster these collaborations, the SOFA community organizes its annual event, [**SOFA Week 2026**](https://www.sofa-framework.org/sofa-events/sofa-week-2026/), which will take place in **Lille, France, from November 23rd to 27th** , following the same format as last year:

- **Monday, Nov 23** : Training sessions to get started efficiently with SOFA (introductory track, plus an advanced soft-robotics track).
- **Tuesday, Nov 24** : [**SOFA Symposium**](https://www.sofa-framework.org/sofa-events/sofa-week-2026/#Symposium), a one-day conference bringing together research teams and companies involved in the SOFA open-source project. About 15 presentations are expected on robotics, biomechanics, medical imaging and coupling AI with simulation, together with live demos from [industrial exhibitors](https://www.sofa-framework.org/sofa-events/sofa-week-2026/#Participants).
- **Wednesday–Friday, Nov 25–27** : Technical Committee meetings and technical sessions, open to everyone.

As in previous editions, the week also includes the **SOFA open-source awards** , which reward open-source contributions to SOFA. If you are using SOFA together with Slicer, this is a great venue to present your work. The deadline for presentation and award submissions is **November 6th, 2026**.

👉 [**Registration**](https://www.sofa-framework.org/sofa-events/sofa-week-2026/registration/) for the Symposium is **free but mandatory** , and **remote access** is available upon registration if you cannot make it to Lille.

Please feel free to share this invitation with your team, colleagues and partners. Looking forward to seeing many of you there, in person or online!

Open-sourcely yours,
The SOFA Development Team
