Nowadays I would use automatic segmentation and Colorize Volume module (in Sandbox extension). No change that classic volume rendering would even come close to it. See a few examples here: VTK multivolume/cinematic volume rendering - #25 by lassoan
If you only want to show bones and contrasted vessels and other structures then volume rendering may look nice without much effort, just be enabling ambient shadows - see Improve ambient occlusion in volume rendering - #6 by lassoan
Rendering in GPU is really fast (can be hundreds of FPS on a good desktop GPU). What is the exact GPU model? Laptop or desktop?
You can use “Screen capture” module in Slicer core and there are additional animator modules in SlicerMorph extension.
