Breakout Sessions for PW43

Hello Project Week attendees,

In the next PW43 preparation meeting (Tuesday, June 10), in addition to the discussion about new projects, we will create a tentative schedule for breakout sessions. Until then, please reply to this message if you want to propose a breakout session. Please write 2-3 sentences describing your idea for the session.

Proposal: AR, VR and rendering in Slicer
This session will discuss the status of Augmented and Virtual reality functionality in Slicer as well as recent/future improvements to the 3D rendering infrastructure, with a focus on the status of the transition from OpenGL to WebGPU for the rendering backend.

Proposal: Creating streamlined workflows in Slicer
Annotating large datasets in a streamlined and efficient manner is difficult. In Slicer, multiple extensions have been developed to improve workflow issues, including CaseIterator, SegmentationReview, SlicerSegmentationVerification, SlicerCART, SlicerUltrasound and mpReview. Possible topics of discussion include:

  • best practices
  • what these extensions have in common
  • how to create the infrastructure to support the annotation workflow
  • involvement of other packages like MONAILabel
  • tasks that a workflow should contain - curation, annotation, review, comparing multiple annotations, classification

MonaiLabel extension also has the MonaiLabelReviewer module:

MONAILABELReviewer is a tool for research groups to check the quality of the segmentation of their data sets.

I won’t be able to attend, but there is also MorphoDepot, which has similar functionality and goals.

Dynamic physiology for human digital twins. Focus: using slicer to go from a static CT scan of a patient to a digital twin model that has respiratory and cardiac motion. Ultimately will incorporate more data from other modalities for more precise patient specific motion estimations and simulations of blood flow and estimation of forces. Useful for minimally invasive surgical planning, guidance, and outcome prediction. Goal of breakout: learn of ongoing work and build community.
