I have been trying to use the LungCT analyzer for analyzing my segmentations of the lung, since i am interested in abnormalities in the lungs of primary spontaneous pneumothorax patients. I would like to know whether it is possible for this algorithm to detect bullae/blebs, but also highlight the part of the collapsed lung or the “collapsed” part in the thoracic cavity. Furthermore, i still do not fully understand the results from the table with emphysema etc., and could i correlate the results from these tables to pneumothorax.
The red arrows indicate places of apical collapse of the lung, but the LungCT segmentator does not see this as collapsed or air, but as healthy lung. Are there any options or is growing from seeds the way to go here to calculate for instance pneumothorax size?
These are my results from 1 patient
Thank you for testing the llung ct analyzer
Unfortunately, I am in hospital right now and can go into the details only in the next week.
It would be great if you could put your test data On downloadable link so we have a working basis. Best regards, Rudolf
Get well soon!
I have to check with my supervisor before sharing my test data, I only have a few CT scans right now but there are more to come, but the anonimisation progress takes a while in this hospital. I will keep you updated!, many thanks in advance for wanting to help me! Ill check back in.
I have tried to ask permission to share this data, but I am unable to directly share my data with you. However, I have been trying out different windows for detecting bullae/blebs, but I have not yet booked any success. It seems that the LungCT analyzer gives me a lot of emphysema results that I personally would not deem as emphysema. The emphysema does pick up a lot of the blebs/bullae, but I am not able to get them separate from the emphysema report. My goal of my research is to investigate the size/distribution/location of bullae/blebs and test its correlation with clinical outcomes of primary spontaneous pneumothorax patients.
This view shows that there is apical pneumothorax, but some parts are not included. This is also because the segmentation (LTRClobes) skips this part of the “lung” and can therefore not be used in the analysis part (but that’s another issue). The apical bullae/blebs are picked up by the analysis, but it also gives me a lot of background emphysema. Are there any suggestions on how to exclude the bullae from the analysis and make them separate? Or are there other HU units that are better to use (i have tried this but to no success yet). To sum up, I would like to know if there is any possibility of the LungCT analyzer to pick up bullae and blebs separately from emphysema, and if they can even be picked up by the LungCT analyzer.
Here i post the axial view:
