Voting plugin is available now and enabled for feature request category. Should we try to use this instead of the current recommendation of adding a “thumbs up” on github? (the adding thumbs-up reaction to issues hasn’t really been adopted by users)

I think so, the issue tracker does not see nearly as much traffic and exposure as the forum.
